Board of Directors

ian-dunlopIan Dunlop is a former senior Executive of Royal Dutch Shell and has worked in oil, gas and coal exploration and production, and in scenario and long-term energy planning. He chaired the Australian Coal Association 1987-88, and the Australian Greenhouse Office Experts Group on Emissions Trading 1998-2000. He was CEO of the Australian Institute of Company Directors 1997–2001. He chairs the Australian National Wildlife Collection Foundation, is Deputy Convenor of the Australian Association for the Study of Peak Oil and advises on governance and sustainability.

john-wisemanProfessor John Wiseman is Director of the McCaughey Centre, Melbourne School of Population Health, University of Melbourne. He was Professor of Public Policy at Victoria University 2003–2006 and Assistant Director, Policy Development and Research in the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet 2000–2003. Previous community contributions include: President, Victorian Council of Social Service and Board member, Wesley Mission.

ove-hoegh-gulbergOve Hoegh-Guldberg is Professor and Director of the Centre for Marine Studies at the University of Queensland. His recent work focuses on the impacts of ocean warming and acidification on coral reefs. His work was recognized in 1999 with the Eureka prize. He is a Queensland Smart State Premier’s fellow, a reviewing editor at Science Magazine and chair of the World Bank/GEF working group on coral reefs and climate change.

joe-herbertsonDr Joe Herbertson AM is Executive Chair of Crucible Carbon Pty Ltd, which conducts consulting, research and business development activities in support of sustainable, carbon neutral futures, with a current innovation focus on low-capital cost and scalable biomass processing technologies. He was formerly the head of BHP’s corporate research laboratories, and an Executive Director of The Natural Step in Australia. He is Conjoint Professor at Newcastle University and Visiting Fellow at Macquarie University.

giselle-wilkinson1Giselle Wilkinson has long been committed to the acceleration of sustainable living and is an innovator of social change. She co-founded a housing co-operative, Earth, and is currently facilitating Victoria’s first urban ‘affordable / sustainable’ Co-housing development. Co-founder of the Sustainable Living Foundation in 1999 and current President, she focuses on collaborative strategies for rapidly mobilising whole communities.

brendanBrendan Condon Brendan Condon is Director of Australian Ecosystems, Victoria’s largest ecological restoration company, which focuses on restoring degraded landscapes, rivers and waterways. He is the director of the Cape Paterson Ecovillage, which is working to build the first zero carbon housing project in Australia, and founder of Climate Positive, a not-for-profit organisation working to make a deep and positive impact on reducing global warming.

Charlie Veron

Dr J.E.N. (’Charlie’) Veron has three higher degrees in different fields, was former Chief Scientist at the Australian Institute of Marine Science, and has many professional awards including the Darwin Medal (International Coral Reef Society) and the Silver Jubilee Pin (Australian Marine Sciences Association).    He is best known as the author of the three volume Corals of the World. But is also the author of 100 scientific articles, including 14 books and monographs, on subjects ranging from climate change, molecular biology, palaeontology, coral identification, biogeography, coral reefs, conservation, marine science policy, marine science history, cell biology, reptilian physiology and biography.

phillip-suttonPhilip Sutton is co-author of Climate Code Red: the case for emergency action, and a sustainability strategist. He is the Convenor of the Greenleap Strategic Institute and his work currently focuses on the very rapid achievement of an ecologically sustainable economy and stratiegies for rapid social mobilisation. He was the architect of the Victorian Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988, later adopted as a national model .
